CHANDIGARH: In a significant development, the Haryana government on Wednesday claimed to have attached 20 acres of land of six builders, including TDI, as part of recovery of environment compensation penalty worth around Rs 45.40 crore slapped by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) for alleged violation of the Environment Act provisions.
Besides this, the errant builders are also facing criminal prosecution in the environment court of Kurukshetra.
Sources said this came to light during the disposal of a complaint with CM Window, pending for redressal since 2018. The complaint was related to TDI and other builders who had raised multistory group housing colonies in Sonipat and the discharge of solid waste had been disposed in the agriculture fields of nearby areas.
Sources said a private individual and a group of farmers had approached the CM Window and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for redressal.
The complaints were later referred to the local divisional grievances by Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB). While complaint was being monitored at CM Window, NGT too had imposed the compensation penalty on the builders for not adhering to the norms of disposal of solid waste and sewage as per recommendation by Haryana State Pollution Control Board.
HSPCB had directed the builders to ensure to get the solid waste and sewage transported to STP installed in Sonipat district.
“This issue had been pending at various places and the farmers’ body too had been pressing for the recovery of compensation for corrective measures. Hence the recovery proceedings were initiated and land has been attached. Besides, we have also started the criminal prosecution against the errant builders in the environment court of Kurukshetra and these are pending at various stages,” said a senior official in CMO associated with CM Window grievances redressal cell.
